Description

This is the Colour of the National Militia Battalion from Cabeza de Buey [Badajoz province, Extremadura]. It was made following the specifications published for the Militias on 13th September 1820. This Colour is presently kept at the Congreso de los Diputados (the Spanish Congress of Representatives). Attempts to organise a National Militia date back to 1814, but it was not formed until 1820, after the military rebellion led by Major Riego. Initially some Battalions received purple flags, but later on the new red-yellow-red flags were presented. These units were dissolved in 1823 when Ferdinand VII recaptured absolute power.
